Before embarking upon his legal career, Dr. Thomas Hildebrandt worked as a maintenance technician at a large utility company. Subsequently he studied law at the university of Kiel and completed his legal traineeship in Schleswig-Holstein . Intermediate he received his doctors degree.

Ever since joining the profession in early 2002, Dr. Thomas Hildebrandt has specialized on construction and procurement law. He has been working at the Hamburg office of the Leinemann Partner Rechtsanwälte law firm since January 2004 - moving on to join the management team as Partner in 2007. His legal activities are focused on providing supportive advisory services for major construction projects and infrastructure measures, offering consulting services during procurement proceedings, implementing procurement review processes as well as conducting construction lawsuits before state and arbitration courts.

Dr. Thomas Hildebrandt is a specialist in the field of construction and architecture law as well as an expert in procurement law. In addition , he also acts as arbitrator and conciliator in line with the SOBau Conciliation and Arbitration Procedure for Construction Disputes issued by the ARGE Baurecht Working Group on Construction Law. Furthermore, he is also a member of the DIS German Institution of Arbitration where he serves as arbitrator.

Dr. Thomas Hildebrandt is the author of the book entitled: “Die Abnahme von Bauleistungen” [acceptance of construction services] which is now into its second edition, co-author of the “VOB/B-Kommentar” [commentary on the German Construction Contract Procedures, Part B], published by Leinemann , the commentary: “Privates Baurecht” on private construction law published by Messerschmidt/Voit, as well as the commentary on the VOB/B published by Nicklisch/Weick/Jansen/Seibel. Apart from these titles, Dr. Thomas Hildebrandt also regularly publishes articles in specialist journals for construction law and the building trade (please refer to the “PUBLICATIONS ” section below). He also works regularly for both the “Baurecht” (BauR) [construction law] and “Immobilien und Baurecht” (IBR) [ real estate and construction law] magazines as well as the “Neues zum Baurecht” [latest construction news] information service edited by Leinemann Partner Rechtsanwälte .

Since the introduction of the new area of specialization for lawyers focused on construction and architecture law in 2005, Dr. Thomas Hildebrandt has been engaged throughout Germany as a lecturer at lawyer training courses. He is also a member of the procurement law committee at the Hanseatic Bar Association in Hamburg.

Alongside these activities, Dr. Thomas Hildebrandt also appears as a speaker at construction seminars hosted by a range of different advanced training institutes, e.g. the id-Verlag [publisher’s], the DBV German Society for Concrete and Construction Technology, IBB Braunschweig Institute for Construction Engineering and Management, seminars offered by BSH BAU [construction specialist] in Hamburg, SSB – Spezial Seminare Bau GmbH [provider of specialist training courses for the construction trade], the Akademie für Recht und Steuern (ARS) [Academy for Law and Taxes] in Austria as well as at company training sessions and symposiums (please refer to the “EVENTS ” section below).

For many years, Dr. Thomas Hildebrandt has been ranked amongst the “leading names in private construction law” - a list which is regularly compiled by the JUVE Handbook of Commercial Law Firms. The Handelsblatt has also named Thomas Hildebrandt in 2020 as one of the leading lawyers in construction law with an outstanding reputation in his field.

Finally, Dr. Thomas Hildebrandt is also a member of the DAV German Bar Association, the ARGE Baurecht and the Deutscher Baugerichtstag e.V. [German Construction Law Society]. He is also a member of the Verein zur Fördering von Forschung und Lehre im privaten Baurecht an der Philipps-Universität in Marburg e.V. [association for the promotion of research and learning in the field of private construction law at the University of Marburg]. Additionally, he is also a member of the Bar Association in Hamburg.
