Jarl-Hendrik Kues studied law at the University of Hamburg, going on to complete his legal traineeship in Lower Saxony whilst at the same time gaining a supplementary degree in commercial law. Immediately after finishing his legal traineeship, Jarl-Hendrik Kues spent a year studying at the University of Glasgow where he gained his Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree. As part of his studies, he also worked at an international law firm based in Glasgow.2003 was the year in which Jarl-Hendrik Kues embarked upon his career as a lawyer. In the autumn of 2005, he moved on to join Leinemann Partner Rechtsanwälte. He has been a partner of the firm since mid-2012 - managing our Frankfurt office since 2017.
Jarl-Hendrik Kues advises and represents his clients in all manner of private construction law questions, whereby his main focus is on supporting structural and civil engineering, rail, tunnel and road construction projects. He also regularly deals with questions concerning supplemental services and claims involving construction periods. In cases where an out-of-court agreement is impossible, he represents his clients before the arbitration courts and tribunals. In the procurement law field, Jarl-Hendrik Kues concentrates on providing support and advice to bidders and awarding offices during the award procedures for services and construction contracts.
Apart from his legal commitments, Jarl-Hendrik Kues also periodically publishes contributions in specialized construction and procurement law books and journals and works regularly for the “IBR” real estate and construction law magazine. Jarl-Hendrik Kues is co-editor of a commentary on the new Law on Construction Contracts concerning contracts for works and services in the German Civil Code alongside Prof. Dr. Ralf Leinemann. Jarl-Hendrik Kues is the author of two further reference books. In one, he comments on Section 2 of the VOB/B [German Construction Contract Procedures, Part B], the authoritative regulation on supplemental services. In the other, he comments on Section 6 VOB/B dealing with the regulations on construction periods.
In addition, he also speaks at construction and procurement law lectures and seminars and specialist symposiums.
In the WirtschaftsWoche business news magazine (edition published on 31.01.2020), Jarl-Hendrick Kues was honored as being a top lawyer and one of the most frequently recommended lawyers in the private construction law field. In the renowned Legal 500 Deutschland ranking service for the legal trade in Germany, he received a special mention in the private construction law section. The Handelsblatt has named Jarl-Hendrik Kues in 2021 as one of the best lawyers in Germany in the field of "public commercial law", Construction Law and public commercial law.
Jarl-Hendrik Kues is a member of the Bar Association in Frankfurt on the Main, a specialist in construction and architecture law and a procurement law expert.
